A cold crisp calm May night brought Aurora Australis magic to Aotearoa in an almost once in a lifetime event. This image was taken from Rangiuru Bay Lake Tarawera at 9.56pm as the Milky Way was beginning to exit from behind the blazing Aurora - the bottom left of the Milky Way was just exiting the area of Aurora colour into the darker skies to the east. The Milky Way had been moving from left to right during the course of the evening.
