The great aurora storm of 11 May was such an incredible experience. It was the first time for me to see auroral beams with the naked eye. This is a single shot. Taranaki is a long way north for aurora so we usually don't get much green but tend to get lots of red and beams if the aurora is strong. It was about a 3 hour hike up the mountain to get to this location with around 20kg of gear in my backpack, but the hike was definitely worth it.
