As the aurora begins to fade the glow of the moon rising behind the mountain becomes evident. A surprisingly large and deep fresh water lagoon fed by the Arawata River partitioned from the Tasman sea by a long rocky spit making for a sea swim then wash off in the cleanest water. Apart from these two sources of light, almost nothing but starlight there at night.
