I’ve seen photographs and read about the Corona, but until this evening, I’ve never witnessed this truly amazing phenomenon. It was so fast, like crazy fast. As the colours pulsed, the greens and reds raced through the heavens forming patterns that looked like a phoenix flapping its wings, my brain buzzed along at the same tempo. For much of the evening, the auroral light drowned out light from the stars. To be able to capture the brightness of the Corona, the Galactic Core and detail in the mountain peaks, all in one 3 second exposure is a true testament to the majestic dark skies we have above us here in Aotearoa.
