In the northern hemisphere, Orion is synonymous with winter. However, for us in the southern hemisphere, we see Orion in our summer, although the constellation can briefly be seen in the spring dawn sky. Following a September snowfall in the National Park, I hiked to a famous glacier overlook to capture this region above a fresh coat of wintry snow. This region of the sky is full of bright red hydrogen emission nebulae that can be captured with a modified camera, in stark contrast to the icy blue of the lake below.
