I’m showcasing the Arrowsmith Range and Cameron Hut with the West setting Milky Way. This winter night sky was exceptional and the best I have seen. The star light was illuminating the snowcapped mountains as if the moon were shining. I could easily see the details of the surrounding mountains and there was no need for a head torch when walking around.
This hut is a special refuge for the Canterbury Mountaineering Club. It is in the most amazing setting with high peaks, razor ridges, and perfect night skies. I can contest that the hut is a most welcome sight after a day up the hill.
I took this image as part of a combine mountaineering and astrophotography trip, and this image brings back great memories of that trip which I hope you get a sense of.
