The Tongariro Crossing in mid winter is an astrophotographers dream...and nightmare. With perfect conditions for night sky imaging coupled with the extreme cold of altitude, this was one of the most challenging missions I have ever been on. All up I spent around 9 hours in -10ºc temperatures that put my gear and my resilience to the test but the reward for my persistence prevailed. I managed to capture the entire 360 panoramic scene of one of New ZXealand most popular and deceptively remote location under the rising moon and the setting milky way. At first I was annoyed with the moonrise flooding light acrid the whole scene but when it came time to edit I was actually stoked with the look and feel it gave to this already sparse landscape. I revisited my files again recently after a commission piece for a exhibition, so was able to bring these files to life once again and I was as equally stoked with the result and the satisfaction that came from putting myself through one of the toughest assignments to date.
