While travelling in the South Island in my motorhome (ASTRO) chasing aurora, I was fortunate to strike it lucky in Queenstown on the 11th of May 2024. The original position I had scouted out the year before was already filling up with eager aurora chasers at sunset, so I took an off road track through an empty paddock. This is what I was greeted with at 6.41pm, a sky full of activity, I was gobsmacked. I quickly positioned my most expensive astrophotography investment so far, ASTRO my motorhome and did a full panorama. This is a small part of that showing the Southern cross in the South and Orion in the West. A night I will never forget.
