During solar maximum, airglow strength can increase by up to 40%, and this night was even brighter than usual. I captured this panorama above the Mt John UC Observatory in Tekapo, with the winter hexagon asterism in the back drop, and the bright planet Jupiter to the left of the frame. The airglow took on all kinds of colours and structures, providing a beautifully chaotic scene above one of New Zealand's most iconic astronomy locations.
