The aurora australis in Aoraki/Mount Cook during the geomagnetic storm of May 2024 was otherworldly. Around midnight the sky was completely lit up by fiery pillars of pink and red light, stretching all the way up from horizon to zenith. I used the opportunity to take as many photos as possible on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S22+) while being completely overwhelmed by the sheer scale and beauty of the lights display. This was one of my favourite captures, shot looking over the mountains in the southeast. The Crux and Carina regions of the Milky Way are visible, though the actual milky glow of our galaxy was washed out - and I certainly wasn\'t complaining! 😅
Finished since 15 days, 16 hours and 6 minutes.
