12P/Pons–Brooks, a periodic comet that returns once in 71 years, was a highlight of the northern sky over the first months of 2024 but, for a long time, wasn't visible to us down under. It finally became visible from the southern hemisphere just before the end of April. This photo shows the comet as I captured it on Friday, May 3rd, around 7:40 p.m. At that time, the comet had already passed perihelion and was flying away, becoming a bit less bright each night.
