Dominating the south central portion of the day-eight terminator are the magnificent walled plains Ptolemaeus (153 km), Alphonsus (118 km) and Arzachel (97 km). Of these walled plains, Ptolemaeus is the prime attraction for most cursory visual lunar observers. Adjoining Ptolemaeus southern wall, Alphonsus makes a topographically fascinating subject that will reward high-magnification perusal with large apertures. Arzachel makes a superb addition to the \"Ptolemaeus chain\".
