Standing in silence, alone and in awe, in the great expanse of the South Islands' many mountains and lakes while awaiting with anticipation the impending arrival of a large solar flare. As dusk fell and the night took hold, the radiant pillars of natures light show soon fell upon me. Being in such a remote location with perfect conditions, I wanted to convey a real sense of scale - the scale of a mere human against the backdrop of one of the greatest cosmic wonders known to man. The show was awe inspiring and for me, is my favourite of all the night time wonders to photograph.
Finished since 178 days, 14 hours and 43 minutes.
