5 years in the making. The first night I ever went out to shoot astrophotography was with my current fiancee. I remember seeing the core of the galaxy for the first time and being emotional since I always grew up in light polluted areas. At the time it was an incredibly special night for us. We were navigating me being new to the country and bonding over a celestial experience. Fast forward 5 years and several cameras later. I wanted to do something special for my proposal and I kept thinking about how I want to capture the moment at night time. I had taken the original photo in 2020 where my partner was by herself in the shot. Since I had more sophisticated gear and techniques, I was able to use my intervalometer from a distance to as I jogged up the cliffside. I mentioned to her I wanted the two of us in this photo as a nod to the older photo. Over the years she has learned to stay very still for long exposures and I appreciate so much how she supports this hobby. So as she turned around I pretended to drop my phone and took a knee. Once I told her the shot was over, she turned around and I popped the question. I'm so grateful to have someone who loves me unconditionally and puts up with my intricate plans. Safe to say I'm quite proud of this photo and very happy to call her my future wife!
