Captured in the early morning skies of Auckland during the September 2025 total lunar eclipse, this image shows the Moon completely immersed in Earth’s umbra, glowing with a deep copper-red hue. The title Living in Earth’s Shadow reflects both the astronomical event and its symbolic meaning: the Moon, usually bright with sunlight, now softly lit by light filtered through Earth’s atmosphere. Watching it fade into darkness before returning to light reminded me of how beauty can exist even in shadow. This photograph represents the connection between Earth and its Moon, and the quiet, peaceful moments that can be found when looking up before dawn.
